This Fortnite Sprites guide covers everything you need for Chapter 7 Season 3: how to get them, how they level up, how extraction works, every variant, Sprite Dust, and each Sprite's ability.
Sprites are collectible companions that give you passive perks in Fortnite matches. You equip one before the game, level it up while playing, and if you successfully extract it, you keep all its progress forever. They're the core mechanic of the Chapter 7 Season 3 "Runners" map, Shattered Coast.
When you first play Chapter 7 Season 3, you pick one starter Sprite:
After that, you unlock more by finding them during matches and extracting them. Sprite Chests, Boss Sprites, Fishy Sprites, Vaults, and Guardian Cases are all locations you can find new Sprites — you can see exact spawn locations on the interactive map.
Your equipped Sprite earns Sprite XP from normal gameplay. Things that give Sprite XP:
| Action | XP |
|---|---|
| 📦 Opening chests and ammo boxes | 75 |
| 🤝 Assists | 75 |
| 💀 Knock an opponent | 100 |
| 🏆 Extracting Sprites | 100+ |
| 💀 Eliminations | 200 |
| 👑 Victory Royale | Bonus |
Every Sprite can reach Level 5. Once you extract a Level 5 Sprite, it's considered Mastered forever.
If you die or leave the match before extracting, you lose the Sprite you were carrying that match. Its levels aren't gone forever — you just didn't permanently save that progress. That's why extraction is one of the biggest parts of the mode.
Successfully extracting a Sprite permanently unlocks it, saves all the levels it earned, and gives you Sprite Dust.
Sprite Dust is the currency for the whole Sprite system. You use it to:
Every Sprite has its own passive ability. Some are simple, while others completely change how you play:

Almost every Sprite can come in special variants. These aren't different Sprites — they're different versions of the same Sprite, each with an extra bonus stacked on top of its normal ability.
Variant rarity is not equal — some are much harder to find than others. Burnt Peanut is the only Sprite that doesn't have special variants.
No. You can't trade, gift, or sell Sprites. Every Sprite and every variant has to be found and extracted by you.
The goal isn't just getting every Sprite. Players are trying to:
That's why FNSpots is actually useful — it lets you instantly see what you've collected, what's still missing, and how close you are to 100%.
You pick a starter Sprite (Fire, Water, or Earth) the first time you play Chapter 7 Season 3. After that, you unlock more by finding them during matches and extracting them successfully.
Your equipped Sprite earns Sprite XP from actions like opening chests, getting assists, knocking or eliminating opponents, extracting Sprites, and winning matches. Every Sprite can reach Level 5, which is considered Mastered once extracted at that level.
If you die or leave the match before extracting, you lose the Sprite you were carrying for that match. The levels you earned are not permanently saved unless you extract it first.
There are three ways: use an Extraction Site, use a Portable Extractor, or win the match (Victory Royale). Successfully extracting permanently unlocks the Sprite, saves its levels, and gives you Sprite Dust.
Sprite Dust is the currency of the Sprite system. It's used to summon unlocked Sprites, upgrade Sprite rarity, buy Portable Extractors, buy daily XP boosts, and scan for nearby Sprites.
Variants are special versions of the same Sprite, each with a bonus on top of its normal ability. The variants are Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Holofoil, and Gem. Almost every Sprite can have these variants, except Burnt Peanut.
No. Sprites cannot be traded, gifted, or sold. Every Sprite and every variant must be found and extracted individually by you.
